Fig Culture Podcast
Step Inside the World of Figs
There’s a whole world inside figs—varieties, growing techniques, recipes, collectors and the stories behind them.
On the Fig Culture podcast, I talk with innovative growers and other fig enthusiasts about growing trees in pots and in the ground, choosing varieties, ripening fruit, propagating plants and conquering cold winters.
If you already grow figs, you’ll come away with new ideas. If you’re just getting started, you’ll discover that there’s more than one way to grow a fig tree—even in a cold climate.

Meet Your Host
Steven Biggs
I’m a horticulturist, author and lifelong plant nerd who has been teaching gardeners how to grow figs in cold climates since 2011.
My fig obsession began much earlier—in 1993—when I spent a summer working at a nursery that housed the UK National Collection of figs. I haven’t looked back.
I’m the author of the award-winning Grow Figs Where You Think You Can’t, the first book devoted specifically to growing figs in cold climates. Through Fig Culture, I talk with growers, collectors, researchers, cooks and other fig enthusiasts—and share the ideas that can help you grow better figs.
Host Steven Biggs.

Take the ideas from the podcast into your own garden.
My revised and expanded fig book is a practical guide to growing figs in pots and cold climates—from choosing varieties and managing growth to ripening fruit and getting trees through winter.
Many of the growers featured on Fig Culture also appear in the book, where photographs and detailed explanations let you explore their methods more deeply.
